At an official ceremony the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev opened the International Nuclear Security Master`s Degree Programme.
“I believe this first of its kind Master`s degree programme in Bulgaria will be successful and there will be achieved high results in the education”, said the Rector. He wished “Good luck!” to the Bulgarian and foreign Masters and their lecturers.
At the event attended Mr. Dmitrii Nikonov from the Nuclear Security Directorate of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, Austria, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Head of the National and Regional Security Department and Dean of the Economics of Infrastucture Department of UNWE, students and lecturers.
The programme is worked out and implemented in the frameworks of Agreement of Cooperation between the UNWE and IAEA signed by the Rector Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev and the Director General of IAEA Yukiya Amano during his visit to Sofia in June 2014.
Coordinator for implementation of the Agreement from the UNWE is Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov.
The objective of International Master`s Degree Programme is the preparation of highly qualified managerial staff for the nuclear security.
In the first alumni of the programme there will be educated eleven students form seven countries (Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Iraq, Jordan, Nigeria, Lebanon) and part of them are scholarship students of IAEA.
The Master`s Degree Programme is in the English Language.
It has duration of two years and combines theoretical and practical lessons.
In the programme are included 22 disciplines, laboratorial exercises, technical visits, simulations, etc.
In the education participate the lecturers team of the National and Regional Security Department, lecturers from Climent Ohridski University of Sofia, researchers from Acad. A. Balevski Institute of Metal Science, Equipment, and Technologies with Center for Hydro- and Aerodynamics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMSETHC-BAS), experts from the Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRA), Technical University of Sofia jointly with some foreign universities.
Methodical assistance to the Programme is ensured by the IAEA and the International Nuclear Security Education Network whose member our university has become in the middle of 2014.
