PREFACE
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
we, IHM, as a non-profit organization, see ourselves as an international network for education and training. Knowledge, as well as education and training, are no longer confronted with boundaries in this globalized world.
A central aim of our network is to exchange knowledge and experience, especially in the medical field. According to our motto “Magna est scientia”, we want to contribute as European organization to interconnect partners worldwide in a high quality network.
The more intense our partners work together with us, the more successful our ideas will be.
Therefor we are proud to have built up partnerships with universities, universities of applied science, hospitals, medical academies, public institutions, professional organizations, interest groups, companies and industry.
Our programs have been introduced successfully in China, United Arabian Emirates, and Russia and as next steps in Iran, India and Turkey.
Our focus is always to share best practice in the treatment of patients with chronic diseases and identify possible potential for efficacy and efficiency improvement.
With your active input and contributions we will be able to enlarge our range of educational programs on an international level in the future.

IHM INFO CORNER
IHM INDIA FOUNDED:
We are really happy to announce, that by April 28th IHM India was founded and started its operative work. CEO of IHM India is Dr. Philip Varghese, who is also shareholder of IHM India.
IHM India has its office in Bangalore in the South of India, where also the first activities of IHM India will start.
Under the lead of Dr. Varghese, IHM India is actually following two strategic tracks of development. One is to educate people in home based Lymphedema treatments. The target of this project is to significantly improve the partly very bad situation of lymphedema patients, especially outside the bigger cities in India. Accompanied is this system by travelling doctors and physicists who will also be specifically trained and educated in IHM courses. In the near future the establishment of wound and Lymph centers in bigger Cities and, where possible, integrated into a cancer hospital or a cancer station in a hospital.
The second focus in the near future is put on the development of a high quality OP course system which ends up in the development of an OP certificate program. At the moment all the necessary programs are developed and the partners and hospitals are selected to host and accompany the upcoming IHM OR certificate program.
IHM CDT COURSES DUBAI AND CHINA WITH GREAT FEEDBACK
In May and June 2015 the first courses in Lymphedema management have been carried out through IHM very successfully. As the first step for future IHM trainers more than 30 people were educated at the first level to get the opportunity to work as an IHM trainer on Lymphedema management in the future. Besides the many personal positives Feedbacks, as well in China as in Dubai courses, IHM also sent out a detailed feedback questionnaire to get a more objective feedback from all participants. Finally we are very happy that an average acceptance of 4,54 of 5 possible points were reached. We checked 19 topics and additionally we collected written feedbacks to also get more deep information on possible improvements of the IHM courses. Although the result is really good IHM of course is trying to improve even this very good result for the first courses in these countries.
From the participants of these courses a selected number of participants will have the opportunity to attend in autumn the second level courses in Austria, to get the possibility to finally receive the trainer license in lymphedema management after passing this course successfully. LYMPHEDEMA CONGRESS SANYA, CHINA
Launch event: European – Chinese cooperation project in compression and lymphedema therapy Sanya, China
In China in 2014, there were about 10 million people who suffer from lymphedema and about 100 million people who suffer from lower leg venous disease. To treat these diseases, lymphedema therapy and compression therapy have proven to be very effective. In Europe, standardized treatment therapies and educational programs have already been established. However, in China these methods of treatments are mostly still missing.
Therefore IHM, the Institute for technology-based education in Health, Management and social services international, the FH Joanneum, Graz and L&R (Lohmann & Rauscher GmbH) started a collaboration with the Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch Lymphedema Group, Lymphedema standard training base and L&R China Medical Products Co., Ltd to establish standardized lymphedema and compression therapy in China in order to provide the best treatment for lymphedema and lower leg venous disease patients.
The launch meeting of the European-Chinese cooperation project in compression therapy was successfully held from May 29th to May 31st in Sanya, China. Besides the numerous possibilities of networking, remarkable speeches were given and contracts were signed. The delegate from the German Chamber of Commerce especially pointed out the positive, fruitful business cooperation between Germany and China and outlined the importance of the project. Finally, Dr. Walter Döller and Mrs. Prof. Liu Ningfei reported about the lymphedema treatment therapies in Europe and China in two very interesting speeches and emphasized on the existing differences between the regions.
Moreover, IHM is especially proud to announce that this program is fully supported by one of the leading hospitals in China, Zhejiang cancer hospital, who signed the collaboration contract to establish a training base for lymphedema treatment in collaboration with the IHM.
We are looking forward to the long-term cooperation with our estimated partners.

We are really happy to announce, that since April 2015 the new IHM website is online under www.ihm.ac.at . On this website all relevant themes and issues are displayed for past and future participants of our academic courses. The IHM will keep this website updated in terms of scientific reports and interesting information for you all. We are continuously developing our website in order to deliver regular and actual information for our partners and course participants.
SCIENTIFIC / PRACTICE CORNER

The FH JOANNEUM, university of applied sciences, sees its mission in transferring high quality knowledge. The international positioning of a concept, like the “Complex Decongestive Therapy”, lives up to these high quality standards.
In “Module 1: Principles of lymphedema I” which took place in China and Dubai, it was possible to give the participants from all over the world an understanding of the European treatment strategies in a practice relevant way, due to the collaboration of different professions from different cultures. The collective interest in the optimal treatment of lymphedema patients and the willingness to learn, made the courses a great success with positive learning effect and active exchange of experience, not only on the side of the students but also on the side of the lecturers.
In the upcoming modules, the students get to deepen their knowledge about lymphedema treatment. After successfully graduating from the CDT course, the participants will be able to perform complex examination and treatment techniques and to adapt interventions according to different pathologies. The most qualified graduates get the possibility to apply for our train-the-trainer program which certifies them to transfer their knowledge in the highest possible professional way.
IHM FUTURE CORNER
IHM “CDT MODULE 2” COURSES DUBAI AND CHINA IN OCTOBER
With great pleasure IHM INTERNATIONAL is very happy that in October the first 2nd level courses for Dubai and China are held in Graz, Austria. In total around 15 carefully selected graduates will have the pleasure to be educated at the 2nd level of lymphedema management. There will be a 3rd module in spring 2016, which also needs to be completed successfully, then students obtain academic certification for lymphedema therapist according to European treatment standards. The best students have the possibility to apply at the University for a train the trainer program to become an official IHM International trainer in CDT.
With great pleasure and interest we are looking forward to these high end courses to educate the future lymphedema trainers at IHM level.
NEW IHM COURSES IN RUSSIA
IHM is also proud to announce that the first co-operations with medical institutions in Russia, particularly in St. Petersburg, were fixed within the last weeks. We will keep you informed in the future on the development of these courses.
FIRST CDT COURSE IN IRAN
Finally we are happy to have fixed the first 1st level CDT course in Teheran/ Iran, which will take place from October 13th to 16th 2015. Dr. Walter Döller and Mr. Stephan Harmos de Hyhalom will teach there around 25 doctors and physicists in the latest basics on CDT.
